Volunteer Coordinator
Location: Chino Valley, Arizona
Position Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Executive Director
Position Summary
The Volunteer Coordinator is crucial to creating an exceptional volunteer experience from a person's first interest in Horses with Heart through long-term involvement. This role develops systems and culture that effectively recruit, develop, deploy, and retain volunteers who advance the organization's mission.
Success in this position means building a thriving volunteer community that feels valued, prepared, connected, and inspired to serve.
Essential Responsibilities
Volunteer Recruitment (20%)
Partner with Horses with Heart leaders to assess volunteer needs across programs, administration, fundraising, and facilities.
Develop and implement strategic processes that create a consistent flow of new volunteers.
Communicate the mission of Horses with Heart to the community and inspire others to join the cause.
Create and maintain systems that orient and place volunteers in appropriate service opportunities.
Volunteer Development (30%)
Ensure volunteers receive excellent training and opportunities for growth.
Collaborate with department leaders to develop and administer volunteer training.
Guide staff in volunteer engagement strategies that promote outstanding volunteer experiences.
Volunteer Deployment (20%)
Create and maintain systems that coordinate volunteer placement and track volunteer involvement.
Partner with team leaders to align volunteer strengths and interests with organizational needs.
Monitor volunteer participation and adjust placements as needed.
Volunteer Retention (20%)
Develop and implement strategies that encourage long-term volunteer engagement.
Create systems that track volunteer retention and identify opportunities for improvement.
Foster a culture of appreciation, celebration, and belonging among volunteers.
Supervisory and Leadership Responsibilities (10%)
Supervise the Volunteer Coordinator Assistant by establishing clear expectations and priorities.
Support and encourage the Assistant's growth and success.
Hold team members accountable to agreed-upon outcomes.
Serve as a member of the Horses with Heart leadership team through collaboration, support, and living out organizational values.
Qualifications and Skills
The ideal candidate will possess:
Strong organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
The ability to coordinate multiple priorities and manage details effectively.
Experience recruiting, training, or managing volunteers is preferred.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace applications.
Knowledge of, or experience working with, people with disabilities and/or horses is preferred.
A willingness and passion to learn about the individuals Horses with Heart serves and the equine partners involved in the mission.
Physical Requirements
Ability to work in both office and ranch environments.
Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
Ability to walk on uneven terrain.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
