Bowl-a-Thon

Thank you to all the riders, volunteers, and bowlers who came to our 20th Annual Bowl-a-Thon last month! Because of your support, we raised funds to support our Competition Team, scholarship funds, and operating fund. Congratulations to Landry and Sutton King, who were crowned Kings of the Bowl-A-Thon in the under-18 category, and to Jeremy Owens, who was crowned King for the over-18 category, for bringing in the most pledges.

Competition Team Update

We are happy to welcome Pam Berry back to Horses with Heart! Pam will be leading our Competition Team again this year. Pam has been a great mentor and trusted advisor to our Team members, as well as a valued instructor at Horses with Heart for nearly three decades.

The first meeting of the Team will be on Saturday, March 9th. If you have any questions regarding the Competition Team and the 2024 schedule, please contact Pam at hwhcompteam@gmail.com.

Appaloosa Meadow Tack Sale

Appaloosa Meadows will be holding their spring tack sale in early April at Appaloosa Meadows. See you there.

  • Saturday: April 6th: 7:00 am - 2:00 pm

Save the Date!

We will be participating in the Prescott Rodeo Parade again this year. The Parade is Saturday, July 6th, and we will need lots of help the day of the parade and with the planning process. If you are interested in helping Horses with Heart have a memorable entry in the parade, please email Sherry Hoover at hwhvolcoord@gmail.com.

Marvelous Mini February Programs

The Marvelous Minis paid a visit to Haven Health Assisted Living Facility in Prescott on February 13. Rocky and Brady (the mini donkey) headlined this program and, decked out in Valentine style, made many friends! They were in great demand for photos with the residents, some of whom said they couldn't wait to post them on Facebook! Thanks to the Mini Team volunteers who helped make this a great day for these folks!

Horses with Heart Classes Begin this Month!

Horses with Heart has been preparing for our 2024 season over the winter months. We are excited that our mounted and unmounted classes begin the week of March 18th.

Needs Around the Ranch

  • We are looking for a 2-3 slant trailer.  If you have one you would be willing to part with, please reach out to Charissa Donnelly at hwhprograms@gmail.com.

  • We are working on a list of volunteers who can haul horses in emergencies and to shows and other events.  If you have your own truck and trailer and would be willing to help us in these situations, please contact Sherry Hoover at hwhvolcoord@gmail.com.

Volunteer Needs

We are looking for a few more volunteers to join our Maintenance Team.  If you are handy, and don’t mind some physical labor, please email Sherry Hoover at hwhvolcoord@gmail.com.

Kate Adams

Volunteer of the Month – Kate Adams

In addition to being an Instructor-in-Training, Kate assists with many tasks at Horses with Heart.  She hauls our horses when needed and comes throughout the week to help turn out, hand-walk and exercise horses.  She works events, trainings, and orientations, and she is always willing to lend a hand.

  • How long have you been with Horses with Heart?  I’ve been with HwH for six years.

  • Why do you volunteer at Horses with Heart?   I got started with HwH because I missed being around horses. So, when I stopped by, Helen Collins showed me around and talked about the facility and the program. The more I heard the more I knew that’s where God wanted me to be. I believe in the work that this organization does for the community. I also believe in the healing power of horses.

  • What is your favorite memory or moment at Horses with Heart? One of many special memories I have is when a little girl came to HwH. She wouldn’t even touch the horse and went screaming across the arena. Class after class went by, but each time she came one step closer to getting on and then one day it happened!  Up she went, she screamed, then cracked up laughing, then I couldn’t get her off. She refused to get down. She ramp-mounted from that moment on, until the last class of 2023 when she mounted from the block!! I have no words to describe how proud I was/am of her.

  • If you could share one thing with new volunteers, what would that be?  I believe that God gives each of us gifts and talents. Your gift/talent is vital. Trust the process.

Heroes on Horses

Horses with Heart volunteers, staff, and friends are invited to carry a flag in honor of our country and then to cheer on our veterans in the Heroes on Horses Western Pleasure class on March 6th. Show your appreciation for our United States Veterans at the Parade of Heroes and Exhibitor’s Lunch at 11:30 am in the Equine Chronicle Arena on March 6th.

Heroes and Horses West is a special project of the NSBA Foundation sponsored by Bob and Ingrid Miller.
