Brave Hearts

Horses with Heart is excited to announce its inaugural Brave Hearts Event which will be held on June 22nd. Upcoming Obstacle Challenge

Marvelous Minis Events:

The Marvelous Minis had a very busy May! We had two visits to Mountain View Elementary School in Prescott Valley on two different days.

We also visited the Territorial Early Childhood Center in Chino Valley. Four classes of Special Resources students were treated to quality time with the Minis.

The Minis were invited to add to the joyous occasion of adoptions becoming final for eleven kids and their newly adoptive families at the Juvenile Justice Center in Prescott. Lots of smiles and happy tears, even from our MM volunteers who were invited into the festively decorated courtroom to watch the proceedings.

We also visited a couple of our favorite senior living facilities who invite us regularly because their residents love the Minis: Ativo and The Landings, both in Prescott Valley.

Last, but not least, was the momentous occasion of Rocky getting body-clipped for the first time ever! Anyone on the Wednesday grooming team who has ever tried to give Rocky a bath would not believe how quietly and patiently he stood as Danni clipped him. He did get to take breaks when the clippers needed to be cooled off!

Competition Team Update:

What a difference a month makes!  May 10th gave us beautiful weather, our horses were all on their best behavior and our riders proved how hard they have been working.  Everyone did a great job!  Shout out for this show is Jeremy Owens for unknowingly entering a walk/trot/canter class that he doesn’t usually enter, and coming out with a 4th place.  Way to go Jeremy!

We have one more show this spring, June 7th, again at CVEP.  Show starts at 8:00 and we should be done and on our way home between 1:00 & 2:00.  Please come out to cheer us on.  After that, we will break for the summer and return to practice on August 30th.

Last but not least, we want to send healing thoughts and prayers for our teammate Kim Ginn who injured her leg in a fall and team volunteer Barb Stuckey who was injured in an accident.  We wish them both a speedy recovery and hope to have them back with us again soon.

If you’d like more information on the HwH Competition Team, to sponsor or volunteer, please reach out to Pam Berry at hwhcompteam@gmail.com or 928-899-4759.

Wranglr Assistance

Wranglr, our volunteer timekeeping system, is crucial for recording our volunteer hours. This is vitally important because our submitted hours help HwH qualify for grants and donations. Secondly, volunteers also receive some fun benefits. If you need assistance with Wranglr, please contact Annette DeMarco at cyngrrl@gmail.com or Debbie Hutchens at hwhvolcoord@gmail.com  and 408-210-3259.

Kari Haeske

Volunteer of the Month - Kari Haeska

Kari started with us last year when she attended a tack sale and soon after jumped right into volunteering with us. Kari faithfully volunteers to clean our office each week, is on the water tub and fly mask cleaning team, and is a horse leader on our Safety Support Team for our therapeutic riders. Kari always brings such a positive and bright spirit to any role she is in. We are so grateful to have her here at Horses with Heart!

1.       How long have you been with Horses with Heart?

I came to the tack sales in 2024, got the info and did my orientation in September of 2024.

2.       Why do you volunteer at HWH?

I retired in April 2024, and wanted to fill my time doing things I enjoy and am good at. I love animals (especially horses) and I know how having a connection to an animal can really help people.  Volunteering at Horses with Hearts was an easy decision and there are so many wonderful people who work and volunteer there.

3.       What is your favorite memory?

I have done sessions as a coach and substituted as either a Coach or Horse Leader in other sessions.  Seeing the excitement on the kids faces when they get to go out on the “trail” or accomplish an exercise in class is fun.

4.       What would you share with new volunteers?

All the staff and volunteers are very nice, friendly and helpful.  I have never left feeling sad or tired, I always feel good about the work, the people and that I can be a small part of helping out others.
